Staffordshire’s Lower Drayton Farm is set to open the farm gates to its annual Maize Maze on Saturday 7th August – and this year’s theme celebrates the Best of British!
The event will take place on the farm which, located just outside Penkridge, is also home to the popular PLAY@ family farm attraction with its huge indoor play area, outdoor adventure play and animal zones.
Visitors will be challenged to follow a set of clues around a pathway through the towering crop; helping to solve a farmyard mystery on their way. They’ll also enjoy access to an outdoor play area with zipwires and grass toboggans and will have the chance to meet some of the farm’s friendly animals. During September, they will also have the chance to discover the brand-new Sunflower Maze and pick some sweetcorn to cook at home. Farmer Richard Bower says:
“Things are looking really good for this year’s Maize Maze – the rain came at the right time this year to establish this crop, it is now a rich green colour and growing 10cm per day!
“We have chosen our Best of British theme to celebrate the Olympic year with England also doing very well in the Euros. We know everybody can’t get abroad in the pandemic so we wanted to celebrate the best this country has to offer and give everybody something positive to look forward to. We are proud to be British farmers, producing Great British Food and caring for our beautiful landscape, we like to share what we do on our farm with our customers.”
Tickets for the Maize Maze are £8.50pp (under 2 free) and can be booked at www.playatthefarm.co.uk/maze. It is open 11am – 4pm (last admission) daily Saturday 7th August – 1st September 2021, plus weekends during September/October. Those looking to make it a full day out on the farm can also book tickets to the PLAY@ family attraction; saving 25% on Maize Maze tickets if they book at the same time.
