*FARMING UPDATE* Thanks to AW & CM Barrow Agricultural Contractors for forage harvesting the grass from our pumpkin car parks in glorious weather this afternoon ☀️ The grass will be used to feed our animals in the winter months - we ‘ensile’ to preserve it for winter feed called silage. This is produced by tightly packing wet grass to remove air, allowing beneficial bacteria to ferment the feed so it stays nutritious for farm animals during winter. Hay is another method of preserving grass, but requires the grass to be longer and to be thoroughly dried out before being baled. For cattle, silage is generally the more nutritious and digestible option. 🚜🇬🇧 #thisfarminglife #feedingthenation #farminguk #fsmilyfarm
